Setup A Ps3 Wireless Network In Simple And Easy StepsThe Linux Operating System will work adequately on your PS3 only if you have a proper USB mouse and keyboard. So you'd be well advised to equip your machine with these even before installing Linux. Once the required equipments have been acquired you can easily get your PS3 ready for a different operating system. In this article we are going to especially discuss the Fedora Core 5 operating system. To start off make sure you have some sort of an USB drive. This can either be a memory stick or a compact flash drive or even an external hard disk. Begin by plugging the USB drive onto your machine. Now, create a new folder “PS3” in the root of your computer's storage drive. Create another folder “Otheros” inside the previously created “PS3” folder. Once that is done move the former folder into the otheros folder on the Storage drive of the USB drive. After this use a program such as WinRAR in order to open the Addon CD ISO. Navigate the ISO file to find something called the kboot folder. Here you will find a file named otheros.bld., carefully extract it to the otheros folder which you have just found on the USB storage drive. When that is done simply detach your USB drive from your computer and plug it into the PS3. Now, do remember to format the hard disk of the PS3 before you begin doing anything else. Start off by making two partitions, one of them for Linux and the second for the PS3 Game OS. In case your hard disk is big enough be indulgent and let each partition be as big as 10 GB each. Once you are done partitioning click on to the ‘Settings Menu' and then ‘System Settings' and finally ‘Install other OS'. Begin the installation process and let the kboot image be installed onto the PS3. Return to the menu. Click on ‘Navigate to settings' and then ‘System settings' and finally ‘default system'. Choose “Other OS”. Now, on restarting the PS3 you will be welcomed by the installer message of the Other OS installer. If you get stuck with the Other OS installer but wish instead to return to the Game OS simply push the Power button and hold for 5 seconds while switching your PS3 on. This will quickly bring back the PS3's ‘default factory resolution'. Now put in the Fedora Core 5 DVD into your PS3 and restart the system. You will now be welcomed by the Fedora Core 5 installer's kboot message. Remember a CD won't work for a PS3 and only a DVD will let you use this function. When installation begins sda Linux will be identified. Swhen the kboot prompt appears stype in the words “install-fc sda”. You will soon be asked to put in the Fedore Core install DVD. You will now be asked “Is it OK (y/n)” simply click on “y” and start the installation process. Your PS3 is now ready for Linux. Select one of the two installation methods that you will soon be offered. You may choose between Fedora Core Minimum stall and Fedora Core full install according to your personal requirements. However personally I would recommend a full installation, which will help your PS3 all the possible benefits Linux can offer your PS3. The data will soon be unpacked and installed onto your hard disk and within sometime you will be asked to insert a Addon Packages CD. Take out the Fedora Core 5 DVD and put in the Addon disc you just burnt and click on ‘y'. Your installation will soon be done. If you want to start Linux type ‘reboot' or type ‘halt' if you want to turn the system off. Congratulation! You have finally managed to load Fedora Core 5 onto your PS3. You will now be able to install and use any application with a PPC build. |
